Rape: the unlawful compelling of a women through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse: any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person.
rape. (n.d.). Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1). Retrieved June 24, 2008, from Dictionary.com website: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/rape
In Kansas a victim was ordered during trial to avoid the use of terms such as “rape”, “victim”, “assailant”, and even “sexual assault”. Apparently this is a possible new trend in these types of trials:
“It’s a topic that’s coming up more and more,” said Joshua Marquis, an Oregon prosecutor and a vice president of the National District Attorneys Association. “You’re moving away from what a criminal trial is really about.”
Precisely, and as per the actual victim in the trial…
“It shouldn’t be up to a judge to tell me whether or not I was raped,” Bowen said. “I should be able to tell the jury in my own words what happened to me.”
Exactly. It’s one thing to be concerned with “innocent until proven guilty”, but where do we draw the line with “given exception until proven guilty?”
Maybe Kansas is more backward than I previously judged.

When I say that it is ‘Painful To Watch’ (Feministing). And I agree that painful and sick as it is that this is what goes on, it’s important.
Be sure to watch the video that they post with it; but only if you aren’t easily upset or shocked.

Rape is not funny. I am an intelligent individual. I know what ‘opinion’ and ‘fact’ are defined as. In this case, definitions be damned…rape is not funny in any capacity, in any situation, nor in any circumstance. If you do think it’s funny something is severely wrong with you and were you in my office I would provide you with a mental health referral immediately. Oh and by the way…if you think rape is funny and also think it’s okay to laugh about it publicly you shouldn’t be on the air-I don’t care if it is unregulated XM radio.
These two assholes would obviously disagree with me. (If you are sensitive to vulgarity & language-probably better that you don’t take a listen to the second link).
My favorite part about all of this are the idiots that defend it and turn it into a ‘censorship’ issue. Really?!? Are you sure about that? Glances at message boards that are supporting Opie & Anthony reveal that many are asking that an apology be issued to the two for the 30-day suspension of their show. An apology? They should have been dropped all together-immediately.
Violent acts against women, or anyone for that matter…are just not funny-and consequences for mocking them are really not a censorship issue.
